Objectives of Session

Participants will learn about various approaches to determine program effectiveness and student growth as a consequence of involvement in arts (in) education activities

Participants will take away a clearer understanding of the methods and instruments evaluators use to measure effectiveness and/or growth

Participants will become familiar with the terminology most associated with evaluation and assessment including
research
evaluation
assessment
measurement
analysis
feedback
control groups
experimental groups
evidence
anecdotal information
surveys, questionnaires, tests, focus groups, rubrics, reflection on student work

Participants will begin to recognize in their readings ways to embellish knowledge presented in this session with information contained in books, websites, and articles in periodicals.

Participants will begin to think of how their work can best be evaluated and how their students can best be assessed and how the results of the evaluation/assessment process can best be communicated to their sponsors, funders and peers.
